Most importantly, bee propolis contains powerful antibacterial properties which are capable of destroying strains that have become resistant to conventional antibiotics.

Could it be the natural antibiotic of the future?

What is Bee Propolis?
Bee propolis is a sticky resin that seeps from the buds of some trees and oozes from the bark of other trees, chiefly conifers. The bees gather propolis sometimes called bee glue, and carry it home. Propolis is used to line the interior of brood cells in preparation for the queen’s laying of eggs. With its antiseptic properties, this propolis lining ensures and almost sterile environment for the brood, interestingly much more sterile than our hospitals.

Properties of Bee Propolis
Bee propolis research shows it offers antiseptic, antibiotic, antibacterial, antifungal, and even antiviral properties both in vitro and in vivo. Propolis is a complex system in nature. It is so powerful in action, it is often called Russian penicillin in acknowledgement of the extensive research the Russians have mounted on this wonder worker from the bees. Propolis has shown powerful antimicrobial and antifungal properties. Even streptococcus bacteria have been shown to be sensitive to propolis. With MRSA and "super-bugs" in the news regularly, Bee propolis with its multi-pronged effect relieving infection is seeing increased exposure in the media.

Bee propolis is now considered a significant part of dietetics and a natural treatment by the World Health Organization. Propolis is rich in bioflavonoids (naturally occuring antioxidants with anti-cancer properties). High in B-complex vitamins, propolis contains prominent quantities of vitamin C, E and Provitamin A. It also contains minerals and trace elements such as calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, silica, potassium, phosphorous, manganese, cobalt and copper.

  1. swallow's nest in an edible gel form is supposed be good for the skin too. it gives that clear and pasty skin that we all love.

it's mad expensive. my brother and i bought some for my mom for her birthday. it was like 400 bucks for like a 6-8 oz jar. Luckily we finally found the one of popular brand online (hongkong-bird-nest.50webs.com/index_e.htm and http://www.euyansang.com/)

dad said it's really popular in indonesia. that a guy has to climb a high mountain to get the nest. that's why it's so expensive.

i mean why doesn't the dude just look for the fabled korean swallow king, capture it and let it lay eggs full of gold! then, he wouldn't have to work so hard and climb them high mountains.
